The Olympia Companies is proud to announce Colby College as the newest addition to its growing portfolio of properties in the campus hospitality sector. Olympia will develop and manage Colby’s new 42-room boutique hotel and restaurant in downtown Waterville, Maine. The hotel is owned by Elm City LLC, Colby's development arm, and will be the focal point of Waterville’s downtown revival. Groundbreaking is expected to commence in 2017.

The Olympia Companies and SMART Hotels LLC are delighted to announce that Hyatt Place Chicago-South/University Medical Center in Chicago’s iconic Hyde Park neighborhood has been awarded LEED Gold Certification by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) in the New Construction category. The hotel is the first Hyatt Place in the world to be LEED Gold certified. The property was designed by Legat Architects, one of the leading green design firms in the Midwest, and built by William A. Randolph Construction Company.

The Olympia Companies will manage The Inn at Swarthmore, a state-of-the-art hotel that is currently being built by Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, just 11 miles outside of Philadelphia.

The Olympia Companies will manage a state-of-the-art hotel that is currently being built in Oberlin, Ohio by Oberlin College. The property will anchor The Peter B. Lewis Gateway Center, the cornerstone of Oberlin’s Green Arts District, an ongoing development encompassing the northeast corner of North Main Street and East College Street. It is a planned 100,000-square-foot, mixed-use development that will incorporate renewable energy systems and other innovative technologies designed to meet the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Platinum rating.

The Olympia Companies announce that the Hilton Garden Inn Durham-University Medical Center in North Carolina has been recognized by Hilton Worldwide with two prestigious awards. The hotel, which opened last year, was presented with the brand's Ramp-Up Award as the best Hilton Garden Inn to open in 2014. The hotel was also named as a Pride Merit winner, after being selected from a field of 600 Hilton hotels worldwide for achieving a top 3 rank for product quality, guest service, loyalty, and cleanliness.

Cleveland-based Stark Enterprises is the master developer and has announced its selection of The Olympia Companies to create a signature hotel that will complement the award-winning Crocker Park lifestyle development. Crocker Park features townhomes, apartments, retail, restaurants, leisure, and commercial office buildings. Hyatt Place Crocker Park is being developed in conjunction with the relocation of the international headquarters of American Greetings Creative Studios to the Crocker Park development.

Two weeks ago I had the honor of receiving the award for best Hospitality / Residential Project from ENR Midwest on behalf of the Hyatt Place Chicago South University / Medical Center. It was a rare treat to get together with the project architect, April Maifield from Legat Architects, and our general contractor, Eric Handley from W A Randolph Construction. These two firms were instrumental to the success of this project. Using an integrated project delivery system that engaged the general contractor during the design phase allowed us to brainstorm practical, cost-effective solutions for many of the project challenges. This was particularly important as the hotel was being developed as part of the Harper Court Development, located on top of an underground parking garage that was being built by another developer. As an example, we were able to switch structural systems from poured in place concrete to light gauge metal stud during the schematic phase, saving over $1 million in project costs and 1 month in project schedule.

The Alfond Inn, the boutique hotel in Winter Park, was named one of the Best Hotels in Florida with an impressive debut at #2 on the short list of winning Florida hotels. Built on leadership values in hospitality, education, philanthropy and the arts, The Alfond Inn opened just over a year ago and is owned by Rollins College, one of the country's most lauded liberal arts colleges. Managed by The Olympia Companies, The Alfond Inn was funded in part by a $12.5-million grant from the Harold Alfond Foundation. All of the net operating income from The Alfond Inn is directed to The Alfond Scholars program fund, the Rollins College premier scholarship fund, for the next 25 years or until the endowment principal reaches $50 million, whichever comes later. This fall, the first group of Alfond Scholars fund recipients was welcomed.
